Where to Trick or Treat in Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, Republic and Branson (2026 Guide)

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year! Here’s where to trick or treat in Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, Republic and Branson, plus the neighborhoods and events worth knowing about.

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. That means no school night bedtime, no rushing home from work, and no trying to get tiny superheroes into costumes before supper. Just porch lights, wagons, and every kid in the Ozarks out on the sidewalk at once.

As a mom, I’m always looking for the streets where the candy is plentiful and the walking is easy. As a Realtor, I spend a lot of time on those same streets, and I can tell you the best trick or treat neighborhoods have a few things in common. So whether you’re looking for trick or treating near Springfield MO or a spot closer to home in Nixa, Ozark, Republic or Branson, here’s where to go and what to know.

What Makes a Great Trick or Treat Neighborhood?

Before we get to the list, here’s what I look for:

  • Sidewalks. Kids are safer and parents are calmer when nobody has to walk in the street.
  • Homes close together. Smaller lots mean more doors per block and fewer tired legs.
  • Porch lights on. A street where most porches glow is a street that’s ready for you.
  • Neighbors who go all in. You can feel it when a neighborhood treats Halloween like a block party.

Rountree

If there’s one Springfield neighborhood known for Halloween, it’s Rountree. The historic neighborhood near Missouri State hosts a walking parade on Halloween night, and anyone can join.

The parade traditionally starts around 5:30 PM at Weller Avenue and Delmar Street. After the parade, the trick or treating moves along Weller and Pickwick Avenues, Fremont Avenue, Kickapoo Avenue and Delaware Street.

Need to know: Get there early. Parking fills up fast, and University Heights Baptist Church has offered parking during the parade in past years.

Southern Hills

Southern Hills has become another Springfield favorite, with its own neighborhood Halloween party and plenty of porch lights on. The mature trees and winding streets make it one of the prettiest walks in town on a fall night.

Trick or Treating in Nixa, MO

Nixa’s big city event, the Halloween Spooktacular at McCauley Park, already happened on October 23, so save it on your calendar for next fall.

For door to door candy on Saturday night, Nixa’s established family neighborhoods are where you’ll want to be. The Villages at Wicklow has walking trails and a true neighborhood feel. Irish Hills Estates has mature landscaping and is close to the Nixa schools. Fremont Hills is lovely to walk, but the lots are larger, so bring the wagon for little legs.

Trick or Treating in Ozark, MO

Downtown Ozark goes all out on Halloween night. The Downtown Ozark Trunk or Treat on the square is hosted each year by the 4C Sertoma Club along with local businesses and first responders.

Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, traditionally 5:30 to 8 PM on the historic square. In past years there have been free hot dogs, chips and soda, plus plenty of candy.

Need to know: The streets start filling up before the official start time, so arrive a few minutes early.

After the square, head home and walk your own street, or try [add your favorite Ozark neighborhood here].

Trick or Treating in Republic, MO

Republic’s Treat Yourself in Republic has been a Halloween night tradition for more than twenty years. Local businesses, churches and organizations hand out candy all over town, and some locations add extra activities.

Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, traditionally 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Republic Parks and Recreation usually posts a map of participating locations, so grab it before you head out.

For neighborhood trick or treating, [add your favorite Republic neighborhood here] is a great place to walk.

Trick or Treating in Branson, MO

Branson gives you two great options this year.

Halloween BOOnanza: Friday, October 30, 6 to 8 PM at the Branson RecPlex ballfields. It’s free and has a trick or treat trail, games, face painting, inflatables and a costume contest.

Branson Landing Safe Street Trick or Treat: Saturday, October 31, 5 to 7 PM. Kids trick or treat from shop to shop with no cars on the road, which makes this a great pick for the littlest trick or treaters.

If you’d rather stay in a neighborhood, [add your favorite Branson neighborhood here] is a good place to start.

Quick Tips for Trick or Treat Night

  • Go early with little ones. The first hour after sunset is the sweet spot before the crowds and the cold set in.
  • Add something reflective. Glow sticks, a flashlight or reflective tape on a dark costume help drivers see your kids.
  • Bring a wagon. You’ll need it for tired toddlers or for the candy haul.
  • Check the weather. Late October in the Ozarks can mean 70 degrees or a hard frost. Plan costumes that still work over a jacket.

Love Your Neighbors This Halloween

My favorite part of Halloween isn’t the candy. It’s that one night a year when the whole street is outside together. Learn a few names. Thank the neighbor with the full size candy bars. Wave at the family who just moved in. That’s how a street becomes a community.

Happy Halloween, friends!
